Turn your craft into a career and other stuff

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Well it's overcast this morning in Newport Beach. It's a city in Southern California about 2 miles from the beach. My husband is a yacht captain and works most weekends during the summer leaving me to my own devices. That's one of the reasons I started my blog, to give me something constructive to do and unplug from corporate life and work from home. Blogging has been quite the adventure. Lots of ups and downs but I've learned so much and grown as a person.

Have you ever thought about starting a blog? It doesn't need to be about quilting or crochet. Or have you ever thought of having your own YouTube channel? Lots of people are having fun on these two platforms and earning money while doing it. Check out my post on how to start a crochet business. For my quilters, the title of this post could be anything. Just insert your passion where the word crochet is located.

Memory/T-Shirt/Jersey Quilts

The quilts listed above require interfacing in order to stabilize the clothing fabric so you can quilt it together. Interfacing gets confusing, not knowing which is best for your project. I've got a new post that explains which one is best for these types of quilts and how to apply it.

I've put together a round up of my posts to make a t-shirt quilt but also works for memory quilts and sport jersey quilts. Free quilt pattern and tutorials on hand quilting and the best fusible interfacing to use. This t-shirt quilt pattern isn't like all the others. It fuses quilt blocks with t-shirt/jersey blocks and it's awesome. Angela from The Midnight Quilter first shared it on your YouTube channel with no written pattern. I've done that for you.

Best Interfacing for T-Shirt Quilts

Does interfacing confuse you? Not sure which is the best for t-shirt, jersey or memory quilts with fabric other than quilting cotton? Not sure how to use it? This tutorial is for you.

Hockey Jersey Quilt

My take on a t-shirt quilt but made with hockey jerseys. Works great when you don't have enough shirts for a full size quilt. Pattern by Angela at The Midnight Quilter. Free pattern and tutorial.

Hand Quilting without a Hoop

Finishing off my hockey jersey quilt and needed to learn how to hand quilt without a hoop to do the jersey quilt blocks with large emblems. I’ll show you how I did it, the supplies that were used and some tips I learned along the way. Beginner quilting tutorial for big-stitch hand quilting.

Happy Friday y'all! My website just hit a major milestone today, I just published my 100th post and it only took a little over two years working part time on this. Blogs are a lot of work but I'm doing it for the love of being creative and finding others who are like me. Passing down traditions of crocheting, sewing and quilting to anyone who is interested in learning. Plus free patterns and inspiration, at least that's the goal anyway. Here are some random fun facts about me, so here we go:...

You may have already seen these posts but they contain round ups of different types of quilt patterns. Each of these posts were written over the last two weeks. So make sure you check these out if you are in between quilt projects and looking for your next pattern. All free of course. This week I'm back to my childhood home to attend a funeral and spend time with my granddaughter this weekend. We will be volunteering at a Harvest Festival and earning community service hours for her school. We...

Still working on getting some projects finished that have been lying around for way too long. Also working on some curtains and trying to think up my next crochet pattern. Here are two free quilt patterns, both lap or throw size. Perfect for all skill levels. Each is different, using a different piecing method to sharpen your quilting skills. Fall is almost here and I'm excited. It's been so hot this summer and it's no fun to craft when it's hot. Looking forward to crocheting more, I've...
