Crochet On The Go & Best Way to Learn

Happy Sunday!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I get asked all the time what's the best way to learn how to crochet. My gut response is to have someone sit with you and show you but that's just not practical for most. Then I suggest Woobles kits just to get you started. They created their own beginner yarn which is sturdier to work with. It's in a nice little package and has everything you need. Once you've learned with the kit, stop using their beginner yarn and switch over to regular yarn listed in patterns.

These kits have all the materials plus crochet hooks and a pattern in one kit for around $30. I've recommended these kits a lot lately just to get them started and then refer them back to my site for tutorials and free written patterns. YouTube is also good for visual learners, showing the crocheter's hands and live stitching up close and personal.

Summer is around the corner and it's a great time to take your crochet with you on vacations or road trips, even to the beach. Crochet is such a portable hobby and doesn't take much room in a tote bag. Have you seen my small quilted tote bags for sale?

They are super cute for spring and summer, grab a zip pouch too for your crochet hooks, needles and scissors so nothing gets lost at the bottom of your bag.

Pick a free pattern from my Pattern Index and make something today.

Did you know that now you can print my blog posts without any ads for just $3? Just go to the shop and search under digital crochet patterns.

Here are some great crochet projects that you can make and then assemble when you've made enough. Most are granny projects because who doesn't love the granny stitch.

Sunburst Granny Blanket

This is such a fun project to make and the join as you go method for connecting the granny square blocks is easy to learn. Just follow the pattern and use this beauty the next time you go to the park or outdoor lawn concert. Grab the digital pattern for $3 here.

Classic Granny Squares

See what you can make with these classic granny squares. Make them small (3 rounds) or larger and design your own project. Use your new join as you go skill to turn granny squares into clothing, bags, hats, skirts, etc.

Granny Rectangles

Same concept as above. Make these in any size and colors and design your next crochet project. That's the beauty of being artistic. Once you learn the stitch method and know how to join (there are lots of ways to join granny's), you get to be the designer and make whatever your brain can imagine. Grab the digital pattern here.

Happy Saturday! I had such a great time last weekend up in Northern California at my family reunion. I haven't been with everyone for over 15 years. My close cousins started a group chat so now there are 5 of us that text each other all the time and stay in touch. We are the middle generation cousins and are planning our next get together for early next year. Even though my entire weekend was spent traveling, I felt so great at work this week and had a new pep in my step. I really needed to...

handmade quilted makeup bag with zipper

Happy Saturday! I'm flying to Northern California today for a family reunion in downtown Pleasanton. Very excited to see my family, it's been at least 20 years since I last saw everyone together. Family is important, so make sure your not crafting too much and missing out on life! I added scrappy borders to my queen size churn dash big block quilt and just got my cotton batting from Amazon the other day. I'll share the finished quilt and how I added the borders in my next newsletter This is...
