New Pattern Drop
Granny Ripple Crochet Pattern. I'm obsessed with granny's, what can I say. Hot off the presses (posted last night) is my new Dixie Baby Blanket using the granny ripple stitch. If you love making granny squares, rectangles or hexagons, you will love this pattern. Not interested in a baby pattern? Want a full size blanket pattern? No problem, my pattern also has instructions to modify this into a full size blanket or afghan.

New to Quilting (Part 4)
Are you new to quilting and don't know where to start? Here we offer step-by-step tutorials to guide you through every part of the quilting process, making it easy to start (and finish!) your own quilts. With a focus on vintage charm and handmade beauty, you’ll find inspiration to create quilts that feel right at home in your space. Visit my new "Learn to Quilt" page dedicated to new quilters.
In Part One we covered buying fabric, how to pick your first pattern, how to cut fabric with rotary cutter, how to sew simple squares together and how to make half square triangles.
In Part Two we covered picking a pattern but only using 2 - 5" Charm Square Precut packages. And following the free Charm Square quilt pattern and tutorial to complete the quilt top. It is just for practice and to make a quilt from start to finish.
In Part Three we covered backing fabric, batting and basting.
Before we move on, how did it go? What was challenging, where did you struggle?
Straight Line Machine Quilting
The next step is actual quilting. This is when you sew your quilt top, batting and backing fabric together. Here on my blog you will find instructions for machine quilting using your own sewing machine. Below is a tutorial for hand quilting without a hoop. You can certainly add a hoop but this should get you started.
Next time I will talk about all things binding. If you can't wait, just head to my quilt tutorials section and good luck. Just remember, take breaks if you are getting tired, frustrated or are making a lot of mistakes. You can do this. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions or need help by sending me an email at nikki@sewnikki.com.

Happy Saturday! I had such a great time last weekend up in Northern California at my family reunion. I haven't been with everyone for over 15 years. My close cousins started a group chat so now there are 5 of us that text each other all the time and stay in touch. We are the middle generation cousins and are planning our next get together for early next year. Even though my entire weekend was spent traveling, I felt so great at work this week and had a new pep in my step. I really needed to...

Happy Saturday! I'm flying to Northern California today for a family reunion in downtown Pleasanton. Very excited to see my family, it's been at least 20 years since I last saw everyone together. Family is important, so make sure your not crafting too much and missing out on life! I added scrappy borders to my queen size churn dash big block quilt and just got my cotton batting from Amazon the other day. I'll share the finished quilt and how I added the borders in my next newsletter This is...
